CHRONIC LOWER BACK PAIN - 2 Years

“Honestly, I was a bit impatient during weeks 1 and 2 because the relief wasn't instant. But by week 4 of lying on the mat every night, the deep ache in my lower back completely shifted. For the first time in two years, I woke up without that awful morning stiffness. I can finally get out of bed and stretch without wincing. It takes a little consistency, but it actually works.”

The ache that's there when you wake up.

Maybe it is your lower back when you wake up. Your knees on the stairs. A shoulder that tightens after hours at a screen.

You've tried the things that are supposed to help. Physio, massage, chiro, a drawer full of pills. Some of it worked, for a while. Then the ache came back, and the next appointment was two weeks out.

What you want isn't complicated: relief you can get on your own time, at home, every day, without it running your schedule.

What 20 minutes a day can do for you

Wherever it aches, the mat covers it. Back, hips, knees and shoulders, in the same session.

Mornings that start easier

Lower back

Mornings that start easier

Light reaches across your whole back at once, right where stiffness settles overnight.

Stairs, walks and gardening

Knees and hips

Stairs, walks and gardening

Lie with your legs on the mat and give both knees and hips focused time in the same session.

Let go of the day at the desk

Neck and shoulders

Let go of the day at the desk

Tension from screens and long drives sits in the neck and shoulders. The mat covers them while you rest.

A calmer end to the day

A calmer end to the day

Twenty quiet minutes with warm light can become an easy way to wind down before bed.

Tired muscles, looked after

After activity

Tired muscles, looked after

After a workout, a round of golf or a day of yard work, give your body 20 minutes of light before bed.

How red light therapy works

Step 1

Two kinds of light

Every LED holds three chips: one red (660 nm) and two near-infrared (850 nm). Red light is absorbed near the surface. Near-infrared travels deeper into muscle and around the joints.

Step 2

Energy for tired tissue

Both wavelengths are absorbed by the mitochondria, the part of your cells that makes energy. This is the effect studied in thousands of published papers under the name photobiomodulation.

Step 3

Everywhere at once

Most devices treat one spot at a time. The mat covers your back, hips, legs and shoulders in the same 20 minutes, so you're not moving a panel around or choosing which ache gets attention today.

You'll feel a gentle warmth. The near-infrared LEDs are invisible to the eye. That's normal, not a fault.

My wife took it over so we ended up needing a second one. I bought this for my own post-workout recovery, but my wife tried it once for her lower back pain and basically confiscated it. We were arguing over who got to use it at 8 PM every night, so we bought a second one for her side of the bed. Most used health product we own.

E
Eric S.
Dad was doubtful

Dad's first reaction was that it sounded like another thing people buy from an advert. I didn't argue with him, just showed him how the mat worked and let him decide whether he liked it. A few weeks later he was telling me his legs felt less stiff after using it. He still isn't interested in discussing red light technology. He just gets it out when he wants to use it.

M
Marina H.
Still working well with regular use

Durability was my main concern because this is something you lie on and move, rather than leave standing in a corner. I've been using it regularly and putting it away as instructed. So far, the surface and connections have held up well and it starts normally each time. I can't tell you how it'll look years from now, but it hasn't given me the early problems I was worried about.

C
Chris H.
Useful on the ordinary bad-back days

I don't have a dramatic story about one session changing everything. I have a desk job and a back that gets uncomfortable if I sit too long. Using the mat has made those evenings easier. The relief varies, but I generally feel looser afterwards. I'm glad I chose something simple enough to keep using rather than something that needed a whole new routine around it.

N
Neil W.
I wasn't expecting much

I've tried a few things that felt nice while I used them but didn't seem to change much afterwards. That made me cautious about this. I started using the mat without expecting a dramatic result. Over time, the tight feeling across my lower back became less noticeable in the evenings. I still have uncomfortable days, especially if I've overdone things, but I reach for it because I feel a difference.

C
Cameron W.
Better finish than I expected

I was worried the mat would feel flimsy. The edges and connections look tidy, and it feels substantial enough for regular use. Early days, but pleased with the construction.

E
Emily F.
Happy I have it

My back feels less tight after using it. That's why I bought it, and that's why I'm keeping up with it.

A
Amelia R.
Measure where you want to use it

I checked the dimensions against my space before ordering and I'm glad I did. The mat fits where I intended to use it. Photos alone wouldn't have told me that.

A
Adrian W.
I wanted my back to feel better

Some of the claims around red light made me more sceptical, not less. I wasn't shopping for younger-looking skin or a complete health overhaul. I wanted something that might help my back feel less stiff after work. That's where I've noticed a difference with the mat. I still take breaks from my desk and do my usual exercises. It has fitted alongside those things well, without becoming a complicated routine.

H
Henry N.
Comfortable once I'm settled

I expected the mat to feel awkward under me. It's been comfortable to use, which was one of my biggest questions.

V
Vivian R.
Prefer this to my little pad

Much less adjusting during a session. That's been the biggest improvement over the small pad I used before.

G
Graham K.
Both of us use it

My husband wanted something for his tired back after work. I was more interested in how it would feel after exercise. We decided to buy one mat and see whether we'd both use it. We do. He tends to use it earlier in the evening and I use it later. Sharing it has made the purchase feel much more worthwhile than buying something only one of us occasionally touches.

C
Caroline D.
More comfortable, not perfect

I bought the mat mainly because of the stiffness in my back and hips. Some days the difference is more noticeable than others, but overall I'm more comfortable after a session. I still have sore days. I'm happy with the improvement without pretending everything has disappeared.

G
Grace D.
Nice after a desk day

My shoulders are usually tight by dinner. A session on the mat has been a welcome part of my evenings.

N
Nathan F.
I needed a plain answer

The thing holding me back was knowing how to start. I'd read so much conflicting advice that I was making myself more confused. I asked Norventi to clarify the instructions for this mat, and the reply actually addressed my questions. After that, getting into a routine felt much less daunting. I like using it now, but the clearer explanation was what got me past leaving it in the box.

D
Deborah H.
This one hasn't ended up in the spare room

I have a bad habit of buying something with good intentions and then finding it too much trouble. That's why I hesitated over the mat. Using it while I listen to something in the evening has worked for me. I'm getting regular use from it, and my back feels less wound up afterwards. A few weeks in, I'm still getting it out without needing a reminder.

A
Anita R.
A little easier keeping up

I spend a couple of days a week with my grandson, which involves more getting up and down than you might imagine. My back and hips were making that uncomfortable. Since using the mat regularly, I feel a bit less stiff moving around. I'm not suddenly racing him across the park, but sitting with him and getting back up has felt easier. That matters more to me than anything cosmetic.

N
Nina B.
Lying down made the difference

Holding a smaller device in place got tiresome, especially when I wanted to use it around my back. With the mat, I can settle into a comfortable position and stay there. That practical difference has made me use it much more.

F
Fiona G.
The stairs are less of an event

I run a few times a week, and after longer outings my legs can really complain the next morning. I added the mat to my usual recovery routine. I've noticed less of that stiff-legged walk down the stairs lately. I'm still stretching and taking rest days, so I can't give the mat all the credit, but it's been a useful addition. Much easier to stick with than I expected.

P
Paul W.
Less moving a little pad around

I already had a small red light pad, so this wasn't my first go with it. What annoyed me was moving it between my back and legs and making a whole evening of it. The mat is less fiddly for the areas I want to cover. I get settled once instead of repeatedly adjusting everything. That's why I bought the larger one, and it's made me much more willing to keep up with it.

C
Colin R.
The price still made me stop and think

I wouldn't call this a small purchase. Before ordering, I tried to be honest about whether I would use it after the first week. Several weeks later it's still part of my evenings, particularly after long workdays. My back feels more comfortable afterwards and I don't have to talk myself into the session. That has helped me feel better about what I spent, although I definitely considered it carefully.

S
Steven A.
I waited before writing this

I didn't want to review it just because it looked nice coming out of the box. My main reason for buying was how stiff I felt after sitting, so that's what I've paid attention to. Several weeks in, standing up and moving around feels easier more often than it used to. I can't measure exactly what changed, but it's enough that I've kept the mat in my routine.

C
Claire B.
Took me a while to order

I've spent enough money on things for my back that I was reluctant to try something else. This sat in my cart for a while. The first few sessions were pleasant, but I wasn't convinced that alone justified the price. A few weeks later, getting up after sitting through dinner started feeling easier. That was the sort of difference I wanted. I'm still careful with my back, but I'm pleased I gave the mat a chance.

O
Olivia H.
No complicated setup

Once I'd read the instructions, using it was straightforward. I haven't needed someone else to sort it out for me.

H
Helen P.
The response mattered

I had an issue with the controller after the mat had been working normally. At this price, that was frustrating. I contacted Norventi, explained what was happening and sent the information they requested. They arranged a replacement controller and followed up after it arrived. I'd obviously prefer nothing to go wrong, but I appreciated getting an actual solution instead of having to keep explaining the problem.

A
Audrey S.
It turned out to be a shared purchase

My partner thought this was just another recovery thing for my running. After trying it following a long day working outside, he started using it too. I like it for tired legs; he likes how his back feels afterwards. We weren't planning on sharing when I ordered, but having both of us use it regularly has made the cost easier to justify.

D
Denise H.
I wanted an update, not another sales email

The tracking didn't move for a few days and I started wondering where my order was. I emailed Norventi and got an explanation of the delivery status rather than just the tracking link again. The mat arrived afterwards in good condition. I was nervous because it was a considered purchase, so having someone answer the actual question helped. I've been enjoying using it since it arrived.

K
Kim N.
Works in our small place

I couldn't leave a big setup out permanently. I checked how the mat should be stored before buying it and made room for it. Getting it out and putting it away is manageable. Worth thinking about before the box arrives.

D
Daniel A.
Mum doesn't need me to set it up

Bought this for my mum, but I was worried I'd given her something she'd need help with every time. We went through it together when it arrived. The next week she mentioned she'd already used it several times on her own. She says her legs feel less stiff afterwards. Mostly I'm pleased she's comfortable using it without waiting for me to come over.

E
Ethan C.
Preferred the open mat

I considered the blanket but don't particularly like being enclosed. The mat lets me get comfortable without that feeling. Glad I thought about the format before ordering, because I enjoy using this one.

Three questions to ask before you buy any red light mat

Most mats use the same red and near-infrared light, so the product name won't tell you much. These three questions will. Here's how we answer them.

LED count

How many LEDs, really?

Each LED holds several small chips. Some brands count the chips and advertise the bigger number. Ask for the real LED count. More LEDs, packed closer together, means more even light with fewer gaps.

Our answer2,160 LEDs on Wide and 1,440 on Standard. That's about 120 in every 30 × 30 cm patch, compared with about 80 on a typical mat.

Light output

How much light actually reaches you?

This is called irradiance. Two mats can look identical and put out very different amounts of light. If a brand can't give you a measured number, you're taking their word for it.

Our answerMeasured irradiance: 130 mW/cm², measured at the mat's surface.

Support

Who answers when something breaks?

We read hundreds of red light reviews before choosing our mat. The biggest complaint in the bad ones wasn't the light. It was a device that stopped working and a company that went quiet.

Our answerA 2-year warranty, 60-day returns, and a Canadian team on WhatsApp and email. We reply within 1 business day, Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm MT.

Norventi answers all three.

What clinicians and researchers say

Red and near-infrared light therapy, known in research as photobiomodulation, has been studied for decades. Here is what some of the people behind that research have said.

Does it actually work for pain?

“It is effective against non-specific pain arising from the muscles and the joints.”

The people quoted here speak about red and near-infrared light therapy in general. They are not affiliated with Norventi and have not endorsed this product. Results with any home device vary.

Your first two weeks

Exactly how to start, so you're not guessing. One 20-minute session a day, and you build up the power level as your body gets used to it.

Days 1–3
20 min · P1–P2

Start low and get used to the warmth.

Days 4–14
20 min · P2–P3

Morning to loosen up, or evening to wind down. Pick a time you can keep.

From week 3
20 min · your level

Use the power level that feels comfortable. More isn't better: one session a day is enough.

Which mode?

ALL (red and near-infrared together) is our default for everyday use. The pulse (10 Hz / 40 Hz) and breathe modes are optional. Try them once you're settled into a routine.

Stay comfortable

Stop if anything feels too hot, and don't stare directly into the LEDs.

If something goes wrong, here's exactly what happens.

No fine print. Here's what's covered, how returns work, and who you'll talk to.

2-year warranty

If your mat stops working from normal use within 2 years, we replace it.

60 days to decide

Use it at home for two months. If it isn't right for you, send it back in its original packaging for a full refund.

One purchase instead of booking sessions

Red light therapy clinics in Canada typically charge $25 to $50 per session. Here's how that adds up against a mat you own.

One clinic session $25–$50 Plus booking, driving and waiting, every time.
60 clinic sessions $1,500–$3,000 The same daily routine as your first 60 days at home.

The mat costs about the same as 20 to 40 clinic sessions. After that, every session is at home, on your schedule.

Clinic prices are typical Canadian per-session rates for red light therapy. Clinic devices vary in size and power.

Questions

Will it work for me?

Red light therapy isn't magic, and results build over weeks, not days. Most of our testers noticed a difference between weeks 3 and 6 of daily use. That's why you have 60 days to try it at home.

Is it safe to use every day?

Yes, when used as directed: one 20-minute session a day. Start on a low power level (P1–P2) and turn it up over your first two weeks. Stop if anything feels too hot.

Who shouldn't use it?

Don't use it if you are pregnant, have photosensitive epilepsy, or have active cancer or a tumour in the area being treated. Talk to your doctor first if you take medication that increases light sensitivity, have reduced sensation to heat, have an eye condition, or have a medical implant or any condition you're unsure about. Children should only use it with adult supervision.

Does it get hot?

It gives off a gentle warmth. If it ever feels too warm, lower the power level or end the session.

Some of the LEDs don't seem to turn on. Is it broken?

Almost certainly not. Near-infrared light (850 nm) is invisible or only faintly visible to the human eye, so only the red LEDs glow brightly. Switch to red-only mode to see them clearly, then back to ALL.

Do I need to use it on bare skin?

For the best results, yes. Clothing blocks much of the light, so lie directly on the mat with the area you want to treat uncovered.

What if I fall asleep on it?

The built-in timer switches the mat off at the end of your session, so it won't keep running. Set it to 20 minutes before you start.

Standard or Wide?

Both have the same LEDs and the same density. Wide (90 cm) covers your arms, gives you room to shift position, and wraps further around your body. Standard (60 cm) is lighter and easier to store.

Mat or Bag?

The Mat gives you light from below, with a higher share of near-infrared, the light that reaches deeper into muscle and joints. The Bag gives you light from above and below at the same time, with no turning over. If you mainly want deeper light on your back, the Mat is a strong choice. If you want both sides in one session, choose the Bag.

Is it certified?

Yes. The mat is tested to CE, FCC and RoHS safety and electrical standards. Full test reports are available on request. Email support@norventi.com.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery takes 8–11 business days: 1 business day to process your order, then 7–10 business days in transit. Shipping is free and tracked, and there are no duties or import fees to pay at your door.

Who pays for return shipping?

If you return it between day 45 and day 60, we send you a prepaid, insured label at no cost. If you return it in the first 44 days, we still send a prepaid, insured label and deduct $100 for return shipping from your refund. Damaged or faulty items are always on us. Returns go to our return centre in  Calgary, AB.

What happens if it stops working?

Message us on WhatsApp or email support@norventi.com. Our Canadian team replies within 1 business day, Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm MT. If your mat stops working from normal use within 2 years, we replace it.

How do I clean and store it?

Unplug it, then wipe the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Never submerge it or get the controller wet. Store it somewhere cool and dry.

Still have a question? Message us or email support@norventi.com.

Twenty minutes a day, on your own time.
